My eyes flew open, pain radiating through my body. My brain felt numb for a second as I tried to register my surroundings. I felt like I'd just woken up from a fever dream, memories scattered all over my mind, nothing seemed to be making sense at that moment.
I yelped suddenly, a sharp pain reverberating through me. It felt like something was happening in my lower belly.
I brought my hand to my head and tried to think, and just then, I felt a sharp prick on my wrist, and my eyes fell on the needle embedded in my skin. It was connected to a tiny tube through which blood from a transfer bag was being transported intravenously to me. I rested my hand back in place and tried hard to understand what could be going on, and before long, everything started making sense. My memories started returning to me as I looked over my surroundings. A few seconds later, I remembered everything. How I had tried to warn everyone about Margalo's devious plans, how no one had believed me, not even Kayden.
And also how I'd foolishly drunk poison in order to save the Alpha. The memory of it all hit my head like a bullet, my head aching terribly.
None of this makes any sense; if I really did drink the poison, then how is it possible that I'm still alive?
Just then, another sudden pain waved through my lower belly, causing me to bite my bottom lip.
"Thank goodness, you're awake." A voice suddenly stole my attention, and only then did I notice the woman in the room and the maid standing beside her, carrying towels.
Adrenaline instantly rushed through me. "Please calm down, you really should avoid stress in your current condition, or it'll raise your blood pressure and make your delivery difficult. The situation is already very complicated as it is; the fact that you're still alive is truly a miracle," the woman said, and I needed no soothsayer to tell me that she was a doctor.
