Benedict’s face falls, and he drops my hand. “Don’t worry,” he says, his voice firm. “I never break a promise. You’ll have your money today.”
“I — I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to — ” I start, but he cuts me off with a reassuring look.
“Stop apologizing, Kylie. You’ve been through enough.”
His eyes soften, and for a moment, I see something vulnerable flicker across his face. But then his phone buzzes, breaking the moment. He glances at the screen and curses under his breath.
“I have to get going,” he says, slipping the phone into his pocket. “Do you have any plans today?”
I hesitate. “I have to go by Alex’s…”
His brow lifts at that, and I quickly rush to explain. “I have to get my things.”
Benedict’s expression shifts, and he reaches out, taking my hand again. “Fine. But remember, you’re my wife now. You know the terms of our agreement. I expect you to be faithful to me.”
