“Is this how you felt when you saw your wolf for the first time?” Delphine asked Damien before he walked out the door that morning.
“What do you mean?” he asked, stopping by the door. Delphine was still in bed. Usually, whenever he prepared to leave for the day, she would always pretend like she was asleep, though he knew she was very much awake. He would always hear her let out a sigh of relief after he left the room. But today, she stopped him.
She pulled the duvet up to her chin, hugging herself. “I have been waiting for this moment for so long, and now it’s here and I just feel weird. I still find it hard to believe, I’m still excited and scared.”
“Scared? Why are you scared?”
“My first turn? I’ve seen it happen to so many people, it’s terrifying, I don’t want to go through that.”
“You will be fine. You’ll have me by your side to guide you through it, and once you learn how to control it, then you aren’t forced to turn every full moon.”
“Yeah, but it’s going to take months before I learn that, and then I’m still in pain.”
“The pain will reduce after your first few turns. Once your body adjusts to it, everything will start going smoothly.”
