School had already dismissed, and yet, there was still no sign of Magnus. I couldn’t believe it. My first day of school, and he didn’t even bother to show up. Anger bubbled up inside me, mixing with a sharp sting of hurt, but I pushed it aside, refusing to dwell on it for too long. Right now, my biggest problem was waiting for Regan, who was still chatting away with those two girls. It seemed like they wouldn't let him breathe, and honestly, I was getting tired of waiting—and super hungry.
I watched them from a distance, the two girls giggling and flipping their hair every time Regan said something. He, of course, lapped up the attention, grinning like a fool. They had been talking for nearly twenty minutes now, and my stomach was starting to grumble.
I marched over to where they were sitting, smiling sweetly at the girls but glaring daggers at Regan. "Hey, Regan," I said in a sickly sweet tone that made the girls laugh, sensing the tension. "I think it's time for us to head home now. You know, before I *starve to death*."
Regan shot me an apologetic look, rubbing the back of his neck. "Oh, right, sorry. I kinda lost track of time."
I narrowed my eyes at him. "Yeah, I bet you did."
The girls laughed again, clearly amused by our little exchange. I couldn’t even be mad at them. They were nice enough, and after all, it wasn’t their fault Regan was an attention-seeker. I gave them a small wave as we started to leave. "Bye, girls. Maybe we'll hang out sometime."
They smiled brightly, nodding in agreement. "We'd love that, Aria!"
As we walked away, I turned to Regan, muttering under my breath, “You’re hopeless.”
