*BENEDICT'S POV*
I saw her application yesterday. Her name on the screen made my heart jolt, a reaction I hadn’t expected. This girl is full of surprises.
She didn’t need a job, not after the money I’d given her. So, what was she doing applying at Bennington Corporation?
It bugged me more than I cared to admit. I didn’t like not knowing what was going on in that head of hers, didn’t like the idea of her feeling she had to fend for herself when she didn’t have to.
Before I could second-guess the impulse, I fast-tracked her application, ensuring it landed on the right desks. Maybe it wasn’t a great idea, but there I was, making it happen.
There’s something about her that gets under my skin, but in a good way. Something that makes me want to shield her from everything, even when she doesn’t ask. Maybe especially when she doesn’t ask.
Like this morning, when I kissed her cheek. I can still feel the softness of her skin beneath my lips, the stunned look in her eyes flashing back at me.
What was I thinking? I run a hand down my face, the echo of that moment making it hard to focus on the report in front of me.
