"Yes! You're being ridiculous right now." We must look like real characters right now; at least this road is more of a back street and not one populated with passersby. He doesn't seem to have a response for me; maybe he's not used to people talking back to him. But if he's going to continue behaving paranoid, then I'm going to keep telling him he's being delusional.
"Rhodes, I gave my boss my resignation, and he heard about it. He said he wanted to do goodbye drinks. I figured he meant with everyone else at work, but then he asked me out, and I was about to tell him no before you did it for me." I give him a soft smile and hold onto his wrist. He shakes his head but still stays put.
"You seriously never mentioned that you were dating?" His question throws me a little; technically, he never asked me to be his girlfriend, but I guess maybe that's what the contract made me?
"I-it never came up. We don't hang out at all. The only interaction we have together is when I collect food from the kitchen. And I didn't tell him that you were the reason I was quitting my job, unless that's how you would like me to start phrasing it?" I don't know why I'm getting mad but I am. This is such a stupid argument to be having; if he would just listen to me, then this would all be sorted out.
"Do you seriously go around telling everyone that you come into contact with that you have a girlfriend?" I question him, hoping he'll see just how stupid it would be if he had to slip it into the conversation that he had.
"Well no, though we have quite different work environments, don't you agree?" I roll my eyes at his response, leaving it to Rhodes to come to the conclusion that his work is more important than mine. I'm not saying it isn't incredibly important, way more important than my job. But he's completely missed my point. He keeps his professional and private life separate as well; I do the same thing. Mainly because the people I work with are more acquaintances than friends, and I haven't talked to anybody about Rhodes aside from Poppy.
"Yeah, you haven't because it would be inappropriate to bring it up in conversation, and I don't spend enough time with these people for it to have ever come up. Besides, we only started dating like two weeks ago." I now wonder if we would count our first meeting or the day we signed our contracts as our anniversary? I guess they are basically the same two-day period, so it wouldn't matter too much.
"I'm not interested in him at all. He only asked me because I'm quitting, and the whole reason why I'm even quitting this job is because you asked me to, remember?" His gaze softens somewhat, and I tuck some loose hair behind my ear that's come loose from my hair tie.
