“Mistress, it's dinner time, and the table is set,” a maid said politely to Zora, who frowned a little. She had just come out of the shower, wearing loose, silky pajama pants. They were neither transparent nor tight.
Due to the summer heat, she left her hair loose, opting not to use the dryer. Even in a loveless marriage, she was addressed as madam, and "mistress" was inappropriate in a comatose marriage. Not hesitating, and as a woman who once managed a home, she corrected the maid.
“Call me Madam. I’m not a mistress but Sebastian’s wife.”
The maid was reluctant, as the nanny had instructed them in the kitchen not to address the woman as Madam, and also specified that Sebastian would send Michelle out of the house as soon as he woke up.
She, who once wanted Sebastian dead, now wanted him to live just so he could kick Michelle out of the mansion. Since she was married to Sebastian by Mr. Newman, she couldn't be easily gotten rid of or manipulated.
The nanny felt threatened by Michelle’s presence, fearing she might be spying on them for Mr. Newman.
“The nanny instructed us to address you as such. I'm afraid she might punish me,” the maid said honestly, her head lowered. Zora had a small smile on her face. It seemed there were indeed weeds in the mansion needing clearing, and she was going to start with this maid.
“Alright. Address me as mistress again, and you can kiss your job goodbye,” Zora threatened, a smile on her face as if she weren’t the one saying those mean words. The maid’s eyes were teary. Between losing her job and being punished, she chose the latter.
