"So he confessed his feelings to you in a most romantic way?" Laurene asks as she brings her steaming mug of coffee to her lips. "Like what's new?"
I haven't given her the full details of my life with Larry, but I can tell her now, right? We are in a cafe close to her place, and I miss her just as much.
"It was the first time he said he loved me, Laurene. That's what's new," I say to her.
She rolls her eyes and swallows when she sees that I'm serious. "Are you kidding me? But you got married to him and went on your honeymoon. Come on!"
"I went on my honeymoon," I agree and lean back against the chair. "But Laurene, it was far from the usual."
"How so?"
I take my time to explain from the beginning and the five-year contract as well as the rules that had been guiding us. Not anymore though. After he confessed his true feelings to me, we'd made love to each other and enjoyed each other's company. After I'm done, she opens her mouth fully in disbelief. I couldn't even blame her. It still feels like a dream.
