Carlos brought his partner forward and said,
"Meet Roseline, guys. She is my partner for tonight and soon-to-be girlfriend." I stretched out my hand for a handshake, and Roseline smiled nervously, shaking my hand. Her hands trembled. I moved closer to her ear and uttered,
"Nice to meet you. What will Carlos do to you if he discovers your true self?" Roseline gulped hard. She laughed out loud to hide her nervousness. Carlos raised an eyebrow suspiciously, holding Roseline's waist, requesting an answer from her. She played with her fingers, fidgeting. I smiled at her nervousness. I wanted to show Roseline how it felt to be helpless.
"It's nothing, Carlos. We were classmates and that's how we greeted ourselves then," I said, breaking the tension between them.
"Wow, that's good. The party has started. See you guys after the party," Carlos said, leaving with Roseline. Carlos mounted the stage, and the light shone on him, everyone clapping loudly.
"Let the party begin!" Carlos shouted and left the stage as soft music was being played. Mr. Larry strode to me and stretched out his hand for a dance. I declined his offer because he hadn't been forgiven. Mr. Larry held my hand and dragged me to the dance floor. I was stunned by his actions. He held my waist, and we danced slowly to the rhythm. I gazed at his face; his face looked handsome under the dim light.
I felt the urge to kiss him, but he stared into my eyes. I shifted my eyes away from his, pushed him slightly, and left. I went out of the hall for fresh air.
"Good to see you again, beauty," a man said, puffing smoke out of his nostrils. He looked familiar. I itched my head to find out where I seemed to know him from.
