I stood outside Aria’s house, knocking for the second time. No response. The quiet house made me anxious. I could feel my heart beating faster, but I tried to calm myself. Maybe they didn’t hear me, I thought. So, I slowly pushed the door, and to my surprise, it was open.
Stepping inside, I froze.
There was Aria, sitting on a man’s lap. She was laughing, smiling as if nothing else mattered in the world. I didn’t know who this guy was, but the sight of her being so close to him lit a fire inside me. My heart sank. Jealousy and anger rushed through my veins like wildfire, clouding my thoughts.
“What the hell is this?” I thought, my fists tightening by my side.
My wolf, Orion, growled in my head. “Calm down, Magnus. Let’s find out what’s going on. It might not be what you think.”
But I was too angry to listen to Orion’s pleas. “My mate… sitting on another man’s lap. How could she? I’ve waited years to find her!”
“I get it,” Orion said softly, trying to reason with me. “But walking away won’t help. We need to know the truth.”
Before I could decide whether to storm in or just leave, I heard her voice—loud and clear.
