She was pissed off. She was upset and sad, and now I pissed her off. I couldn’t do anything right, and now she walked out of the room.
I exhaled a long breath as I typed a text message.
LAKE: I can’t tell her. Her Nana found out about us and was mad at her. She’s so broke right now.
I saw the message bubbling.
LINDEN: Maybe that’s a good thing.
LAKE: How is it a good thing? What if she finds it out from someone else and confronts me? She will think I keep the truth about her father on purpose.
LINDEN: Telling her the truth about her father won’t do any good to her. Trust me. You don’t know how dangerous these people are or their enemies.
