~KYLIE’S POV~
A week later, I’m back at Bennington Corporation for my first day of work. My heels click against the marble floor, echoing around the sleek lobby as I approach the reception desk.
This morning had been... surprisingly emotional. Lionel had brought in a neatly wrapped package at breakfast—a suit Benedict picked out for me. It was perfect. Sleek, tailored, and professional, with just enough feminine flair to make me feel confident.
Thoughtful didn’t even begin to cover it. I’d loved it instantly, and knowing he’d taken the time to choose it for me made me feel like swooning.
He’s only been gone a week but it feels like so much longer. We’ve talked here and there, but I can’t wait to see him.
I roll my eyes at myself.
Transactional, Kylie. Transactional.
The woman behind the desk is tapping away on her phone, barely glancing up until I clear my throat. When she finally does look at me, my stomach drops like a lead weight.
