Eleanor:
My chest ached as I watched Alpha Killian walk out of the room to leave me alone with my thoughts.
The way he looked at me and the way he spoke broke me, especially since I knew that he didn’t understand my situation. And it didn’t make it feel any better that I couldn’t even explain it to him. The idea of doing so was too surreal for it to happen, and the consequences that were going to follow were going to be too great for me to handle.
“You are not going to accept me when you find out who I am, Alpha Killian,” I said, voicing out my thoughts as I looked at myself in the mirror a while after he left the room. The fact that he saw the cut that was on my shoulder embarrassed me more than anything that could have happened to me, and the idea of him pitying me afterward was not something that I wanted.
I took a deep breath and walked out of the suite, wanting to get to work, as I didn’t want to dwell on such a topic. There was no changing the facts anyway; therefore, I wasn’t going to try to do so. Plus, my being free was a blessing enough for me, I shouldn’t be searching for something that would only drag more trouble to me.
“Eleanor,” Liana’s voice broke my train of thoughts as I closed the door, knowing that the Alpha didn’t like it open. I smiled and stopped, turning around to face her as I did, and though I respected the fact that she came and was waiting for me by the door herself, I couldn’t help but worry about the reason behind it.
“Is everything alright, Liana?” I asked, my voice softening as I looked down at my feet, avoiding her eyes as a matter of respect.
“Yes, but I have to ask you the same question,” she said, making me frown in confusion. She put her finger under my chin, making me look at her for a second before removing it. “Something has been wrong with you for the past few days, and I am not liking it.”
